  Notes	William grew up in Morans Crossing outside Bega. WhenWilliam was twelve his father Thomas suffered a permanentpsychiatric breakdown and was taken into care. At the ageof 26 William was arrested for Pig Stealing and on July 291889 was tried in Bega and sentenced to three years HardLabour. Two weeks previously his neighbour William Gaileypresumably an accomplice had been tried for the sameoffence & sentenced to two years. William Moran was sent toDarlinghurst Gaol to have his photo (No. 4478) taken. Thefollowing details were recorded: he could read and write,height 5'9", weight 126 lbs, sandy hair, blue eyes, a scaron the outside of right arm in line with the elbow bone, ascar over left eye. He served his sentence in Goulburn Gaol& following his release had no further trouble with thelaw. He married Margaret Morris who was eighteen yearsyounger than him and it is not known whether she knew ofhis earlier legal problems. He became a successful beefcattle dealer and would sometimes bring cattle to Sydneyfor sale. He would have the cattle graze where MascotAirport now stands.
